Our outdoor mat designs use the same recycled polypropylene material and weave, with the printed designs differing. This eco-friendly base is durable and easy to clean.
The tight weave lets air circulate and acts as a barrier against dirt, stones and insects, keeping your site tidy.
All mats feature edging, regardless of size. Our standard recycled polypropylene designs are reversible for two looks in one - details below. New poly-tube mats can feel rigid at first, then soften with use; a little warm water massaged through the strands helps them sit correctly.
Sun, Rain and Aftercare Limits
Water-resistant polypropylene sheds rain so it drains away instead of pooling. UV stabilisation guards against fading and keeps the mat strong under harsh Australian sun, and our standard recycled polypropylene mats are mould resistant.
After wet weather, allow around two to three hours for the mat to air dry in warm weather. Always make sure it is completely dry before storage to prevent mould.
In harsh sun, shade the mat or pack it away between trips to keep it at its best.
Sizes and Choosing Your Fit
Choose your mat size based on the space available and how you plan to use it. Measure your balcony, picnic or beach setup before comparing the listed dimensions. For caravan awnings, use the Awning to Mat Size Guide in our FAQs as a starting point, then measure your actual setup to check the coverage. The sizes below are examples to compare, not fixed fit rules.
- 3m × 1.8m compact and 2m × 1.4m small sizes for tighter spots, picnics and kids.
- 3m × 2.4m for smaller setups, and 3m to 4m × 2.4m as the family sweet spot.
- 5m to 6m × 2.4m for an expansive area under a large awning, and 4m × 2.4m for larger picnic groups.
- 3m-diameter rounds, plus 60 × 90cm recycled door mats for caravan, RV, motorhome and tent entryways.
Measure your space first so chairs and gear sit in one clean, defined zone. See the ultimate outdoor mat guide for more setup help.
Cleaning and Caring for Your Mat
For polypropylene mat care, hose down with water and allow the mat to air dry. Use mild detergent and a soft brush on stubborn dirt, and avoid pressure washers.
Never hang or drape the mat over a fence or clothesline. Fold it down using the folding diagram in our care instructions so it fits its storage bag.
Before laying the mat out, clear rocks, roots and sharp objects from the ground. Lift furniture instead of dragging it, and keep hot pans and dishes off the surface. Every standard recycled polypropylene mat ships with a storage bag and care instructions.
Pegging Down and Protecting Grass
On eyelet-fitted mats, secure the mat with appropriate screw-in mat pegs. The 4m, 5m and 6m mats carry six eyelets - peg down all six in windy conditions.
Screw lightly without overtightening, and never pull on the eyelet corners. Flat-head screw-in mat pegs sit flush with the ground, leaving no trip hazard and a smooth, flat surface under the mat. Mats without eyelets, such as the “Whale Shark’ mat, can instead use separately purchased matting clips.
The tight weave allows air circulation, so the mat protects the grass beneath and keeps it healthy, a plus where caravan parks require grass-friendly flooring. Expect slight discolouration of the grass after about nine days of continuous coverage, although it recovers quickly. Take care when using mats on tiles, pavers or decking, particularly when wet, as these surfaces may become slippery. Check that the surface is suitable and safe before use.
Recycled Materials, Landfill Diverted
Our outdoor mats begin as everyday plastic waste: bottles, food containers and shopping bags once headed for landfill. Melted together and UV stabilised, this recycled material becomes a mat built for maximum strength and long-term durability.
Choosing recycled polypropylene gives disused plastic waste a second life as gear your family uses for years. The kids range goes further, made from 100% recycled polypropylene that stays soft underfoot. See our FAQs for the full story.
Designs, Colours and Reversible Looks
With a reversed colour or print on the other side, each standard recycled polypropylene mat gives you two looks. The range spans Outback and coastal prints, including Arches, Coral Reef, Native Birds, Whale Shark, Homestead, Free Camping and Classic Stripes.
Kid-friendly prints such as Snakes & Ladders suit playtime, picnics and backyard adventures. Arches brings modern neutral style to a patio, Native Birds suits a stylish patio centrepiece, and Whale Shark fits beach adventures. Print colours can vary slightly between production runs.
